Kim's platform was tackling the plight of homelessness. Her year of service as Miss America helped generate public awareness about homelessness and brought about a better public understanding of this significant societal dilemma.
In addition to her motivational speaking abilities, Kim is an accomplished vocalist. She has made numerous television appearances and was recognized by People Magazine as being one of the "Fifty Most Beautiful People in the World."
After graduation from New York University, Kim pursued a career in public accounting with Ernst & Young, LLP and one of the Big Five accounting firms. Currently, she is an image consultant specializing in pageant interview preparation and a public speaker. She is also a regular columnist for Pageantry Magazine.
She is married to Haven Cockerham. They are the proud parents of a son, Russell.
